About Grimmet Forge
At Grimmet Forge, blacksmithing is more than a trade—it’s a legacy.
The name Grimmet comes from my family’s ancestral home in Ayrshire, Scotland, where the McIlvain line settled as early as 1060. Our roots trace back even further to 250 AD, to a Celtic man named Fionn, son of Alvaine. Today, that name lives on in my youngest son, continuing a legacy of strength, tradition, and craftsmanship.
Fionn—our earliest known ancestor—served as High Steward of Ireland under King Cormac. His banner bore two covered cups, a symbol of honor and guardianship. You’ll see those same covered cups represented in the Grimmet Forge logo, etched into the side of the anvil that represents both our craft and our story.
As a McIlvain, my work reflects those deep Scottish roots—every piece forged with the same integrity and purpose that guided my ancestors.
Whether it’s a custom brand, hand-forged tool, or a piece of ornamental ironwork, you’re not just buying steel—you’re becoming part of a tradition nearly two millennia in the making.
Welcome to Grimmet Forge.
